YOUR FIRST VISIT

We reserve 90 minutes for your first visit to Hazelnut Dental. The first 60 minutes is divided into three main components: gather, educate, and discuss. The last 30 minutes is allotted to a cleaning if there is sufficient time.

There is some paperwork that must be completed before your appointment. We prefer that it be completed online before your appointment with an invitation that is sent to you via email to our secure portal. If you prefer to complete it at Hazelnut Dental, please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete the paperwork on our iPad.

Gather

After introducing you to our practice and getting to know you, we start with a discussion of your personal dental concerns, expectations, and goals. We will then take digital x-rays as necessary based on your dental history and complete a thorough visual examination and gum assessment.

Educate

Once we have gathered the necessary information, we dedicate the next phase to unpacking and reviewing the gathered information. We then proceed to explaining everything without the complex verbiage so that you can comfortably understand the information.

Discuss

We review treatment recommendations based on research and our clinical experience because we understand that not one-size-fits all. Alternatives will also be discussed along with the pros and cons of each option. This is a transparent and candid discussion that we feel is the most important part of your visit.

The Cleaning

A regular cleaning is known as a preventative cleaning. It is a non-invasive cleaning where plaque and surface tartar is removed, your teeth flossed and polished, and we review any areas of concern for you to focus on before your next check-up. This usually takes 20-25 minutes.

A deep cleaning is known as a scaling and root planing. This is the first step towards managing gum disease. This is a cleaning that requires controlling the bacteria and removing tartar both above and below the surface and does require more time. Deep cleaning appointments are typically between 60 and 120 minutes.
